All of my pictures are in storage, but I do have a favorite of Grandpa. Being the oldest grandchild I do have several memories of grandpa, but for the most part he was pretty quiet and to himself. I do remember he loved to tease. The one thing I remember doing with grandpa is now a fond memory, but at the time was not. I helped them move cattle quite often, and if I knew ahead of time that they were going to do it I would try to have an excuse why I couldn't help. It scared me to death that they were going to run over me. I really remember one day grandpa had me standing down the old dirt road next to the house and I was so scared waiting for the cows. When they came it was just like they were headed straight for me, I dove under the white pickett fence and let them all go by. I did get in trouble, never forgot that one. I remember grandpa saddling up Red for us to ride, that was one of my favorite things.
There is one memory that I have that is very special to me because it was a side of grandpa that I really never saw, and Corinne was the only one I ever told. When I was living with grandpa and grandma I was headed to the porch to go into the house. I don't know why I stopped, maybe it was because I knew grandpa and grandma were there having a conversation that seemed different. I just remember grandpa seeming so soft in his words and asked grandma about her day. I remember him kissing and hugging her for a minute and telling her he loved her. That was special to me.
When I lived there I played basketball. I was kind of the benchwarmer I think, but grandpa was there everytime to watch me warm the bench. It was hard for me to have a serious conversation with him, but I hope he knows now how much he meant to me and how thankful I am to the example he was. I love you grandpa! I think of you often and miss you terribly.
